Step by step
- 01
Glue furring strips to the pegboard back
Hooks need a gap behind the board. Wood glue two 24" furring strips along the back edges, weight overnight.
- 02
Wipe wall and let it dry
Strip adhesives fail on dust. A 60-second wipe is the difference between months and weeks.
- 03
Apply strips to furring strips
Six strips per furring strip, evenly spaced. Press to the wall and hold 30 seconds each.
- 04
Wait an hour, then hang tools
Start with lightest tools, build up over a few days. Watch for any sag before fully loading.
Mistakes to avoid
- Skipping the furring strips — without an airgap hooks don’t fit
- Loading the board too fast before adhesive cures
- Mounting on a sunny exterior wall where heat cycles weaken strips
If you can’t drill, cut, or paint…
- Tension-rod between two walls + S-hooks for an even simpler setup
- Standing pegboard easel if your walls are textured
- Magnetic tool strip on a metal cabinet door if you have one
